the perfect country cottage in castle combe

Peacefully tucked away within the breathtakingly beautiful grounds of the 5 star Manor House Hotel, Mead Cottage (also known as Castle Combe Cottage) is a hidden gem, with so much style and charm you may never want to leave. The living space is open plan and airy. Two fireplaces, a cool Scandinavian log burner in the old inglenook, a huge antique grate in the other. Choose to chill on rugs, sofas, leather chairs – there’s even a window seat that looks out over the lane. There are two bedrooms, one has an open plan en suite bathroom, with dressing room on the mezzanine above. The other has a queen size bed which unzips to two generous twins. The bathroom has a Colossus walk in shower, free-standing bath and double basins set on Italian chocolate granite, plus heated floors again for warm toes on chilly mornings. Of course the garden is a sun trap, two lovely old pubs are just round the corner and you can walk to the golf course or settle down in front of the fire with music, a good book and there’s even cable TV.

“This is a really lovely cottage in a fantastic location. The Manor House hotel and village pubs are a couple of minutes walk away and the only noise you hear is the church bells. The cottage is beautiful inside and out and very luxurious. The bedrooms and bathrooms are particularly lovely. Castle Combe is a great base for visiting Tetbury, Cirencester, Lacock and the Aboretum. All in all, a great place to stay.”

“Just returned from an idyllic week staying at this beautiful cottage. Privately owned, but within the grounds of The Manor House Hotel, this lovely cottage was our base while visiting Wiltshire…and we loved it. It’s only a few yards from the main hotel and also the two pub/restaurants in the small village itself. So great for anyone wanting a short walk in the evening for a drink. We ate at The Castle only once, which was ok, but there are much nicer restaurants just a few minutes drive away, including our favourite – The White Hart, Ford. We had 2 really good meals here, in very comfortable surroundings. The cottage itself is quite beautiful – with very comfortable furnishings, lovely bathrooms (2) and everything you need if you want to cook for yourself. The interior has been tastefully modernised, whilst retaining its charming and quaint cottage feel. It has a lovely terraced garden with comfortable seating for ‘al fresco’ dining – we spent many hours out here enjoying the tranquil surroundings. The owner – Barbara, gave us lots of information on places to visit, and recommendations on where to book for dinner – thank you Barbara. She was also keen to hear our views on our return, and grateful for the couple of suggestions we made. Highly recommended!”
